Blue Hole

Overview

Blue Hole is a large marine cavern or sinkhole, open to the surface, formed in the carbonate bedrock of a bank or island. Its waters move with the tide and may be fresh, marine, or mixed, while most of its depth falls below sea level and may lead into submerged cave passages. Its name is shared by known sites at Dahab in the Red Sea, Dragon Hole in the South China Sea, and, in the Caribbean, the Great Blue Hole and Dean's Blue Hole.
