Chuuk Lagoon

Overview

Chuuk Lagoon, once Truk Atoll, lies in the central Pacific about 1,800 kilometres northeast of New Guinea, within Chuuk State of the Federated States of Micronesia. Around it runs a protective reef 225 kilometres, enclosing a natural harbour 79 by 50 kilometres and 2,130 square kilometres in area. Its land covers 93.07 square kilometres, rises to 443 metres, and holds 36,158 people, with Weno city on Weno Island serving as both atoll and state capital, and as the FSM’s largest city with 13,700 people.
