Cornelia B. Windiate

Overview

Cornelia B. Windiate lies in Lake Huron off Presque Isle, Michigan, between Rogers City and Alpena, where the schooner sank with all hands in 1875. She had been eastbound from Milwaukee to Buffalo, carrying grain late in the season after departing on November 27. No one knows why she went down, and with no record of her passing the Straits of Mackinac, she was long believed lost somewhere in Lake Michigan.
